The Historic Jamestown Society recently held a photography contest called

Picture Jamestown.

The object of the contest was to collect and assemble photographs that depict Jamestown, NC,
its history, its buildings, people and places as they are today.

Prize money and other support was provided by the generous contributions of these Jamestown businesses:

Winners will also receive a one-year membership in the Historic Jamestown Society.

We had a number of great entries but here are the three winners and two honorable mentions.

First Place and the $100 prize go to Jared Cronquist. This photo is of a storm cloud, just before a downpour. The photo was taken in late March from inside City Lake Park, overlooking the small bay where the boat house is located.

Second Place and $75 go to Dave Cohen for his image titled Winter Horse, which was captured just off Main Street a bit west of the railroad bridge in March, 2009.

Third place and $50 go to George J. Taylor, Jr. for his photo of the Jamestown United Methodist Church taken in the fall of 2010.

Honorable Mention goes to Donna Blizard. Donna says this photo was taken from the football field at Jamestown Middle School. As the sun set on this beautiful day, and as the air turned chilly, the football fans paused to take in this beautiful gift from Mother Nature.

Another Honorable Mention goes to George J. Taylor, Jr., for his photo of the raising of the American flag in front of Ragsdale High School by uniformed Air Force ROTC cadets.

Also, be sure to see the actual photographs of the winners and honorable mentions, printed, mounted and soon to be on display at the Jamestown Town Hall, the library and various locations around town.
